National Merit-cum-Means Scholarship (NMMS)
The National Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) is a Central Sector Scheme launched by the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India. It aims to award scholarships to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to arrest their dropout at Class VIII and encourage them to continue their study at the secondary stage.
This scholarship helps talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their education further. The selected students receive financial assistance which can be a great support for their academic journey.
Who can apply? Students who are currently studying in Class VIII in government, government-aided, and local body schools. There are specific income criteria for family income, which usually states that the annual income of parents from all sources should not exceed a certain limit (e.g., ₹3,50,000).
How to get selected? Students are selected through a State Level Examination consisting of two parts:
- Mental Ability Test (MAT): Assesses reasoning and critical thinking abilities.
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): Covers subjects like Science, Social Science, and Mathematics taught up to Class VIII.
It's a fantastic opportunity for students to get financial support for their higher education. Each winner will get an amount of Rs 1000 every month(Rs 12000 /-every year) for 4 years(Total of 48000/-).
